Jessie Hatton

My mother was born Jessie Gunn at Peterborough Ontario on December 23rd., 1879.  Her father's name was Thomas Gunn and her mother's maiden name was Amelia Ann Alford.  They were both born in England - Thomas on March 24th. 1844 at Bristol and Amelia at Devonshire on October 14th. 1852.  They met and married in the United Kingdom before deciding to immigrate to Canada in 1878.  Jessie was the forth of eight offspring who were all born in Ontario except my Aunt Caroline who was born at Devon in 1872.  On December 28th. 1910 Jessie married my father David Hatton at Peterborough.  As dad was from nearby Lakefield, they knew each other before he came out to homestead at Copeland.  Mother accompanied him by train back to the farm to take on the adverse life that was unknowingly in store for all early pioneer women.
