"Percy H. Clark"

Percy Clark homesteaded section NW.25.31.19 along with his first wife Tempest directly below his parents (Mr. & Mrs. Palen Clark) place on SW.36.31.19.W2.

Although born a Canadian in 1869 at Marysburg Ontario, Percy later moved to Portland Oregon with his family.  He studied teaching and engineering in the USA before coming in 1910 to homestead south of Dafoe.  After Tempest died Percy married Josephine Ethel Willet in 1924 and fathered two children, Bobby and Anna.  The Percy family farms were about 5 miles northwest of our place on section 10.  Percy was an active member of the community and served for 17 years as secretary of the Foote school district until 1929.

It was a common practice to cut and haul firewood in winter and early spring from our bush camps near the Touchwood hills, and thats what Percy was doing when he stopped by our place with his sleigh on Thursday March 9th.  He returned on Monday March 13th. to pick up our hog in order to breed with his sow, and the following month on Saturday April 14th. Dad and Clarence went to Clarks to look at their cow and ended up staying for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Shortly after my three references to the Clark family, Percy (then 64) moved to Hyas Saskatchewan.  Soon after he went to Vancouver British Columbia where he became an engineer before retiring.  The Clarks came to Saskatchewan before I was born and left before I was married, but it was a pleasure to know them and and share a small part of their lives.

The correct spelling for Percy's last name is Clark, not Clarke as I wrote in my diaries.
